Milla Unkila

Head of communications, BIODIFUL, University of Turku

Milla Unkila (D.Sc.) explores the relationship between business and nature. She is interested in the historical and philosophical trajectories that have resulted in firms becoming environmental villains. She ponders not only what would need to change for business and economics to become genuinely sustainable, but also how to evoke the necessary change without societies first needing to go through an apocalypse.

In her current work as a senior researcher in the Turku School of Economics, she enjoys shaping a new and ethically more sensible generation of future business leaders. In turn, in her role as the head of communications of a multidisciplinary research project BIODIFUL (Biodiversity Respectful leadership) she attempts to inspire the current leaders to take such actions now that would ensure a future for the future generations to flourish in.

Milla has been an entrepreneur, a board member, a communications specialist, a journalist, an event producer, and a musician, with hobbies such as bowhunting, skydiving, equestrian sports and an avid interest in all things sci-fi. Thus, she firmly believes that any viable solutions require the ability to view issues from several perspectives and to integrate the knowledge into a bigger and imaginative picture.
